John Wesley Powell, the 19th century explorer, called the Grand Canyon the "most sublime spectacle on earth." The North Rim of the Grand Canyon receives fewer visitors than the South Rim. One thousand feet higher than the South Rim, the North Rim is closed to vehicles from around November to mid-May. Many of the most beautiful and iconic buttes are closer to the North Rim.
